The Flying Scotswizard: A Steam Locomotive in the Magical World

The Flying Scotswizard 🚂 is a magical steam locomotive built by the GcG Society, belonging to the West School Class. This impressive engine is painted in vermilion red, featuring a sleek, elongated body, a large smokestack, three sizeable driving wheels, and two smaller wheels positioned at the front and rear. It is also equipped with smoke deflectors to shield the driver from drifting smoke, as well as a running board that allows crew members to stand and move along the locomotive during operation.

The tender carries the GcG lettering, while the locomotive’s nameplate, “The Flying Scotswizard – GcG West School Class” is mounted proudly along the side of the boiler.

The name is, of course, a playful magical reinterpretation of The Flying Scotsman, though this version belongs wholly to the wizarding world.

The Scotswizard was constructed after the Scotsman rose to fame in the non-magical world. The GcG Society aimed to create a stronger and larger variant capable of travelling great distances across the magical coastlines.

Previously, the eastern coastal line had long been served by the Hartwell Express, a venerable 150-year-old locomotive used to transport young witches and wizards. However, after Hartwell was reassigned to the southern route, The Flying Scotswizard took its place on the eastern line, now responsible for collecting pupils from schools such as Brighford and Maedburg.

This engine features newer and more refined carriages, including a dedicated on-board restaurant, a facility the old Hartwell never possessed. The Flying Scotswizard made its first appearance when it carried Brighford students from Swallow’s Valley Station in North Yorkshire to East Streamshore Station in the magical town of Fort Greatica.
